HERALDING AN ERA OF EMERGENCY MEDICINE
Aster Emergency Medicine Network is one of the pioneers of modern-day emergency care in India. Conceptualized by Dr. Venugopal P P in 2002, the network started its modest journey from MIMS Calicut. The network boasts of having many firsts in the country. We were the first ones to start the emergency medicine course in India and started a 3-year residency in association with George Washington University in 2006. The emergency department at Aster Medcity Kochi was the first in the country to get exclusively accredited by NABH.
Among many other firsts, the network was also the first in India to do successful eCPR, ED Thoracotomy, and long-distance IABP transfer, to name a few. Recently we introduced India’s First Assisted Reality (AR) enabled 5G smart ambulance.
Today, Aster Emergency Medicine Network provides emergency and trauma care of uniform quality standards across 15 hospitals and 20+ peripheral hospitals across 16 hospitals in Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Maharashtra. The network deploys scientifically developed protocols and envisages improving and strengthen emergency care in India. It works with the vision of making healthcare accessible and affordable to everyone and focuses on creating healthcare professionals skilled at emergency and trauma care

Healthcare delivery is complex and there are so many factors that affect the quality of care. This is of paramount importance in the Emergency Room where the nature of urgency and criticality itself sparks the element of risk, unpredictability and focus on effectiveness rather than efficiency.
Thinking on your feet and results depending on the team rather than an individual alone is the essence of a successful ER. Establishing standards treatment guidelines/ protocols/ pathways, monitoring Key Performance Indicators and upskilling the team to work together as a well-orchestrated symphony can help to improve patient care and outcomes. This workshop aims at equipping physicians, nursing staff and administrators in understanding the basics of Quality Assurance & Continual Improvement strategies in ER with respect to structure process and outcomes.
