Overview:
The collaboration between the Federation of Royal College of Physicians in the UK and Aster MIMS, Kannur has established a cutting-edge Internal Medicine Training programme. This initiative aims to train young graduate doctors to the same high standards as in the UK, following the UK curriculum and assessments. The demand for physicians capable of effectively managing acute and chronic medical conditions, while providing top-notch care for both inpatients and outpatients, is evident. This curriculum will equip physicians with the necessary skills to meet these demands.
Aster MIMS, Kannur has been delivering the complete IMT Stage 1 UK programme, along with the ePortfolio, since 2022. In 2023, after one year of completion, the programme underwent its first full accreditation, which took place on the day following the initial ARCP visit. The five trainees participating in the programme presented comprehensive evidence that they had successfully fulfilled all mandatory requirements of the curriculum. A member of the visiting team, who also serves as a UK Head of School, praised Aster MIMS, Kannur for its exceptional supervision and organization under the Training Programme Director. Additionally, they highlighted the positive culture exhibited by the entire faculty and hospital, emphasizing their commitment to excellence in training. The visiting team also acknowledged the opportunities provided by the developing geriatrics center of excellence. Since 2022, a total of twelve candidates have been enrolled at Aster MIMS, Kannur.
The Federation grants three categories of accreditations, with the most prestigious one being the Level 3 international accreditation from UK IMT. Attaining this accreditation signifies that the curriculum delivery of the programme at Aster MIMS, Kannur is on par with that of a UK programme, as recognized by JRCPTB and the Federation.
