TRUST ASTER PRIME’S EXPERTISE IN PROSTATE CARE – KEY UROLOGY PROCEDURES
1. URSL – Ureteroscopic Lithotripsy
When it’s done: Stones lodged in the ureter causing pain, infection or obstruction.
How it’s done: A thin ureteroscope is passed through the urinary tract. Stones are fragmented using laser and removed or allowed to pass naturally.
Hospital stay: Mostly day-care or outpatient; occasional overnight stay if needed.
2. PCNL – Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy
When it’s done: Large or complex kidney stones unsuitable for simpler treatments.
How it’s done: A small incision in the back provides access to the kidney. Stones are broken and removed using a specialised scope.
Hospital stay: Typically 1–2 days for monitoring and recovery.
3. RIRS – Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery
When it’s done: Kidney stones too large for routine ureteroscopy yet not requiring PCNL.
How it’s done: A flexible ureteroscope reaches the kidney through the natural urinary passage. Laser energy is used to visualise and fragment stones.
Hospital stay: Usually outpatient or a short stay, depending on stone size and patient health.
4. TURP – Transurethral Resection of the Prostate
When it’s done: Enlarged prostate (BPH) causing urinary obstruction.
How it’s done: A resectoscope is inserted through the urethra to remove excess prostate tissue and improve urine flow.
Hospital stay: Generally 1–2 days for catheter care and observation.
5. TURBT – Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumour
When it’s done: To diagnose and remove bladder tumours.
How it’s done: A scope with surgical instruments is passed through the urethra to excise tumours and cauterise the area.
Hospital stay: Usually outpatient or a short hospital stay, based on the complexity of the tumour.
