PACESprep: A practical course for PACES candidates
PACESprep is a non-profit course designed to coach candidates who will be appearing for the MRCP PACES. PACESprep will be run by experienced PACES examiners of whom 4 are based in the UK. The course will focus on equipping candidates with the style and finesse of presenting their skills and knowledge to the examiners in a professional and confident manner. Practical and theoretical coaching will be given on all stations, with special emphasis on New Station 1, 2, 4 & 5 and the old station 3. The course will consist of didactic sessions, interactive sessions & patient demonstration. A mock examination will be held on the final day and constructive and realistic feedback will be given to every candidate. The PACESprep course has been modified to the new PACES23 format and has been fully revamped to incorporate all the changed stations. There will be ample opportunities for candidates to examine patients and the Faculty will put full special emphasis on examination technique. The focus of this practical and hand-on course will include case demonstrations and communications stations. The highlight of this course is the Mock Exam on the third day.

Outline of programme
Day 1 - Tuition on how to approach and satisfactorily pass all five stations.
Day 2 - Practice in all five stations led, supervised and advised by the examiners with multiple opportunities for candidates to be hands-on.
Day 3- The All-important Mock Examination, when the candidates will run through a full PACES replica, giving an authentic and individual PACES experience and with further opportunity to watch and learn from other candidates. Candidates who are not being actively examined can attend parallel practical teaching sessions or observe others who are being examined.
All three days of the course will emphasise the new format of PACES23 and will be coached by the Faculty of examiners who know best on how to bring candidates to the passing standard, as evidenced by the previous pass rate of 70% among those attending the PACESprep course.
MRCP PACES Preparation Course Details
MRCP PACES PREPARATORY course, PACESprep, at Aster Hospital
The seventh PACESprep course will be held from Friday August 23rd to Sunday August 25th 2024 at Aster MIMS Kottakkal. The course is meant for candidates who have passed the MRCP Part1. This highly successful course is being held for the first time since the COVID pandemic and has been revamped in accordance with the new PACES 23 format. The Faculty consists of six UK based physicians who are very experienced in PACES teaching and have examined over six thousand candidates in the PACES exam over the last two decades. The focus of the course will be on teaching the candidates on how to examine patients correctly and present the findings in a concise manner to the examiner. Emphasis will be placed on the communication stations. There will be didactic lectures, practical sessions, case demonstrations and mock communication scenarios. The highlight of the course is the mock exam on the third day. The high fidelity mock exam will be an exact replica of the real exam.The first 24 candidates to register will have the opportunity to appear for the mock exam, so it is important to register early.
THE PACES (Practical Examination of Clinical Examination Skills) is the final part of the Examination that has to be passed, to obtain a Diploma to the Royal College of Physicians of the UK and obtain the title ‘MRCP’. The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, Glasgow & London are joined together as the ‘Federation’. The individual Colleges are over 400 years old.
The MRCP PACES examination can be taken in several centres in India.The PACES Exam is jointly administered by the Royal Colleges of London, Edinburgh & Glasgow.

The nearest airport is Calicut (Kozhikode)International Airport (CCJ) which is located 18 miles from Kottakkal. Indigo Airlines fly direct to Calicut from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad & Chennai. There are direct flights from Trivandrum to Calicut. Direct flights are also operated from Doha, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, Muscat & Riyadh. Calicut is well connected by rail. The nearest rail hub is Calicut and is well connected from several locations.
As most candidates will be physicians with experience, the course will focus on examination technique and presentation skills, rather than examining numerous patients.
The early bird course fee is ₹ 65,000 (Sixty five thousand) plus GST until July 1st 2024, From July 2nd 2024 the course fee will be ₹ 75,000 (seventy five thousand) plus GST.
Yes, there will be a mock examination with timings and conditions similar to actual examination conditions. Written feedback will be given to all the candidates.
The course fee does not include accommodation. There are conveniently located hotels in Kottakkal. Kozhikode is a city with several good hotels, but candidates are advised to stay in Kottakkal. Rooms will be blocked at Kottakkal.
