Pericardiocentesis

Pericardium, the bag that envelops our hearts, can get filled with excessive fluid in certain conditions. The fluid pressure on the heart may lead to a complete cessation of heartbeat and death. This condition, called cardiac tamponade, is an emergency. Pericardiocentesis is a life-saving procedure that involves inserting a needle in the chest and draining the fluid, thereby relieving pressure from the heart.
