Transsphenoidal pituitary tumor resection is a surgical procedure to remove pituitary tumors. This surgery removes specific types of tumors that begin to develop in the pituitary gland, which secretes hormones.
Neurosurgeons and ENT surgeons frequently work together t perform this surgery. Commonly they use an endoscope, a microscope, or both may be used during transsphenoidal surgery. It is performed through the sphenoid sinus, a void in the skull located below the brain and below the nasal passages, and transsphenoidal surgery is performed.
