Thoracotomy
Thoracotomy is a procedure in which a cut is made between the ribs to access the various organs in the thoracic cavity. The incision for thoracotomy is usually performed on the right or left side of the chest. Thoracotomy is usually performed for the diagnosis or treatment of disease and allows the doctors to visualize and take a tissue biopsy from the mediastinal space.
