Hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis are done to clear the waste products from the body when kidneys are in the end-stage-kidney-failure.
Hemodialysis cleans the blood by cycling it through a machine outside the body and returns the filtered blood, the access portal being a blood vessel in the arm.
Peritoneal dialysis washes the peritoneal cavity in the abdomen by putting a tube into the space inside the abdomen and removing the collected waste.
