CAE - Varicose Vein Clinic

Varicose veins are large, swollen veins that often appear on the legs and feet. The burden is high in rural India affecting more than 30% of old age. How does CAE work?

VenaSeal glue is placed into the vein through a fine catheter and rapidly seals the vein shut.

Am I at risk from the CAE medical adhesive?

No. The glue has been trialed and tested in other areas of medicine for decades. It has been recently been the center of large trials which show it be both safe and effective. The glue does not have any harmful effects to the body.

How are radiofrequency ablation and CAE different?

During vein stripping, incisions are made in the groin and calf, and a tool is threaded through the diseased vein to pull it out of the leg. With endovenous ablation or CAE, only one small incision is made at the catheter insertion site and the vein is treated and left in place.

Does insurance cover CAE?

Yes. Most insurance carriers cover CAE. Please check with your insurance provider to see if your specific plan covers the procedure.

Is loss of the vein a problem?

No. After treatment, the blood the used to flow through the faulty veins will be diverted to the many normal veins in the leg.

What is the success rate of CAE procedure?

Published clinical studies show that CAE has an initial success rate of between 94% and 98.9% (6 months post treatment) with excellent long-term results. (The eScope study showed closure rate of 94.3% at 6 months and 92.9% at 12 months. The VeClose study showed closure rate of 98.9% at 6 months)

How soon after the treatment will my symptoms improve?

Symptoms are caused by the diseased superficial vein. Thus, symptoms may improve as soon as the diseased vein is closed. Almost all patients report a noticeable improvement in at least 1-2 weeks following the procedure.
