The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a level III unit. We offer the most advanced care for premature and critically ill newborns.
The NICU offers high-intensity neonatal care 24/7 led by an expert team of highly qualified neonatologists including the leading neonatologist in Bangalore. In addition to that, we have Neonatal Trained Nurses who specialise in the care of newborns, specifically the ones who are born preterm or sick babies who require special care in the NICU.
We also have respiratory therapists who manage respiratory equipment in the NICU, providing breathing treatments, drawing and analysing blood gasses, and participating in transports and codes.
We are equipped with providing invasive and non-invasive ventilation. We also provide advanced ventilation in the form of HFOV (High-Frequency Oscillation Ventilation) INO (Inhale Nitric Oxide) which is an advanced therapy for the management of babies with severe pulmonary hypertension.
This modality is useful in babies born with chest/ lung malformation and also in those who had inhaled meconium (stool) when inside the mother’s tummy.
The NICU has a servo-controlled machine which will enable us to treat babies born with birth asphyxia (babies who do not cry after birth) with this equipment temperature is reduced to 33.5c and maintained at that level for 3 days. This treatment has shown to significantly improve the outcomes in babies. This method is called total body cooling and we are one of the few centers in Bangalore equipped to provide this treatment.
