Peripheral Angiogram

A peripheral angiogram is performed to evaluate blood flow in the arteries of the legs, arms, or other peripheral blood vessels, helping detect blockages, aneurysms, or narrowed arteries.

Why and when it is recommended

It is recommended for patients with symptoms of poor circulation such as leg pain on walking, non-healing wounds, or suspected peripheral artery disease, to accurately locate and assess the severity of blockages before planning treatment.

How it differs from conventional evaluation

Unlike non-invasive tests such as Doppler studies, a peripheral angiogram provides direct, real-time visualization of the artery using contrast dye and X-ray imaging, offering greater precision in identifying the exact site and extent of narrowing.

Life after the procedure

Most patients can resume normal activity within a day or two. If a blockage is found, further treatment such as angioplasty may be planned, followed by lifestyle changes and regular vascular check-ups.
