Gastrointestinal Decontamination
Gastrointestinal decontamination is needed to manage a poisoned patient and involves removing the ingested toxins from the gut. This is done by
- Forced vomiting
 - Stomach washing or lavage
 - Binding the toxins with binding agents like charcoal
 - Whole gut irrigation or purgation by giving specific solutions

The training of all doctors and nurses is required to provide emergency treatment to acutely poisoned patients.
