Psychologist (Pain and Palliative)
Ms. Suparna S is a dynamic and skilled psychologist currently working with the Pain and Palliative Care team at Aster Whitefield Hospital. She provides evidence-based psychological support to patients and families navigating through psychological issues, chronic illness, cancer- related distress, end of life concerns. Her clinical work focuses on addressing the emotional, behavioral, and psychosocial challenges that arise in the context of pain, serious illness, treatment-related distress and caregiving.
Ms. Suparna holds an MSc in Psychology specializing in Clinical and Counselling, from SDM College, Ujire, and a bachelor’s degree in psychology, English Literature, and Journalism from Jain University, Bangalore. She is trained in evidence-based therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-Focused Practice, and Psychological First Aid.
She has prior clinical experience across oncology, mental health, and educational settings, including work in a psycho-oncology service where she provided universal psychological care and facilitated support groups for caregivers, as well as experience in a tertiary mental health hospital delivering counselling within multidisciplinary teams. Alongside clinical practice, she has contributed to academia as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology, engaging in teaching, curriculum development, student mentorship, and research supervision. She has also worked as a school and student counsellor, supporting individuals across developmental stages with a wide range of psychosocial and emotional concerns.
Currently, her clinical work within the Pain and Palliative Care department at Aster involves an eclectic therapeutic approach, offering psychoeducation and supportive psychotherapy across the illness continuum, including end-of-life care and bereavement. She also focuses on emotional regulation and non-pharmacological adaptive coping for pain-related distress, emotional dysregulation, serious medical conditions, treatment-associated distress, anticipatory grief, and complex psychosocial challenges.
She works in close collaboration with doctors, nursing teams, and allied health professionals to deliver integrated patient-centred care. In addition, she provides psychological support to non-oncology patients as well, actively engaging with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive and holistic mental health care across clinical services.
