Aster DM Healthcare Group hospitals in Kerala have successfully completed 1,000 kidney transplants in a short span of time, claimed hospital management. Kidney transplants are performed at Aster Medcity Kochi, Aster MIMS Calicut, and Aster MIMS Kottakal.
On the occasion of World Kidney Day, low-cost kidney transplant surgery for children from economically backward households and special discounted kidney transplant surgeries for adults will be available at Aster Medcity, Aster Mims Calicut, and Aster Mims Kottakal Hospitals, said Mr. Farhan Yasin, Kerala Cluster & Oman Regional Director, Aster DM Healthcare.
He added that low-cost surgeries are being realized in collaboration with the Aster DM Foundation, the Aster Mims Charitable Trust, other voluntary organizations, and global crowdfunding institutions.
In addition, Aster Hospitals will associate with Hope Registry, headed by Fr. Davis Chirammal. For those who need a kidney transplant and have someone to donate a kidney too, unfortunately, the donor kidney may not be suitable, Hope Registry seeks to enable swap transplant recipients to find suitable donor facing the same situation. This is the first time in Kerala that such a registration system has been made a reality, said Dr. Javad, Hope - Administrator.
In addition to the usual kidney transplant surgery, robotic transplant-type kidney transplant surgery is also available at these centers. Apart from this, Aster Hospitals is the first in Kerala to implement Two Way Swap Transplant, Three-Way Swap Transplant, and Four Way Swap Transplant for those who are unable to undergo kidney transplants due to lack of matching despite donors. Aster Hospitals also has the distinction of being the largest center for pediatric kidney transplantation in Kerala.
