Kochi: November 25, 2016: Aster Medcity has entered into a unique new partnership with the London, Edinburgh and Glasgow Colleges of Physicians, UK for offering Core Medical Training (CMT) in India. The partnership will enable training to be delivered to MBBS doctors to the same standard as in the UK, and participants in the program will undergo the same assessments and take the MRCP (UK) examinations. Aster Medcity will be only the second institution in the world after Iceland to deliver CMT outside the UK.

Commenting on the partnership, Dr. Geetha Philips, Training Programme Director, Aster Medcity said, “There is undoubtedly a need for physicians with the ability to investigate, treat and diagnose patients with acute and chronic medical symptoms, and provide high quality review skills for inpatients and outpatients fulfilling the requirement of specialist-led continuity of care. The UK CMT curriculum will empower young physicians with these skills.”

The CMT programme at Aster Medcity would have a duration of 3 years and young physicians would enter the program as trainees after internship. The physicians would have to complete the full CMT programme including workplace based assessments and the MRCP (UK) examinations during this period.

Dr. Harish Pillai, CEO, Aster Medcity and Cluster Head, Aster DM Healthcare (Kerala) said, “We are pleased to offer this globally recognized training programme at our institution. The MRCP (UK) qualification is equivalent with the MD qualification as per the Third Schedule Part II of the Indian Medical Council Act (1956) which will also enable the doctors to practice in India.”

The MRCP (UK) Part 2 Clinical Examination or PACES (Practical Assessment of Clinical Examination Skills) would be held at Aster Medcity and other sites in India. The rigorous standards of the examination are designed to test the clinical knowledge and skills of trainee doctors who hope to enter higher specialist training in the UK.

Interested doctors holding a MBBS degree from a recognized institution and who have completed their internship or will be completing it by 31st March 2017. Applicants will be ranked for interview according to their National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) (Postgraduate) score 2017.
