Kozhikode, February 2, 2017: The legendary cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar today inaugurated the Centre for Sports Medicine& Advanced Rehabilitation at Aster MIMS, Kozhikode. This Centre, along with the Centre at Aster Medcity, Kochi, will provide comprehensive, multidisciplinary sports medicine facilities. These Centres will cater to professionals, amateur sportspersons and others seeking specialized attention.
Aster MIMS has always been closely associated with sports in the Malabar region, and has partnered with Kerala Football Association for medical support.The launch of this specialized ‘Centre for Sports Medicine’ reinforces its commitment to the development of sports in Malabar. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Azad Moopen, Chairman and Managing Director, Aster DM Healthcare said, “We are proud to be bringing advanced healthcare facilities to the people of Kerala. The Centres for Sports Medicinewill offer specialized services with experienced specialists, the latest treatment methods and state of the art medical equipment. Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar inaugurated the center by unveiling the plaque. Commenting on the launch of Sports Medicine centre, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar said, “The efforts of Aster DM Healthcare to invest and develop Sports Medicine centres in two of their facilities in Kerala are commendable. Aster’s holistic approach by including psychological rehabilitation and behavioral analysis to Sports Medicine discipline augurs well for any sportsperson facing an injury or discomfort. The development of Sports medicine centres in this part of the country will reduce the efforts and expenditure for many former, present and budding sports persons and is a great service for the sporting fabric of the nation.”
Aster MIMS also announced the Lifetime Sports Medicine Support Initiative to six State Level athletes under the aegis of the Centre for Sports Medicine and Advanced Rehabilitation. The programme, titled 6 Junior Masters will support and sponsor medical requirements of the selected student athletesto nurture them into tomorrow’s sports stars. Anju Jasmin, Uday Prakash, Gayathri Nambiar(Badminton), Abhirami VM (Athletics),Sachin T K (Volleyball) and Jay Shankar (Football) are among the selected students. Sachin Tendulkar interacted with the students and together with Dr Azad Moopen, handed over the Pledge of Support.
Announcing the Medical Sponsorship of the six student athletes, Dr. Azad Moopensaid, “Sports is a critical component in the factors responsible for the holistic development of young people. Sports promote not just physical fitness and health, but also social and emotional health and development. We must recognize that physical education and sports also has a positive educational impact, and helps young people develop life skills. Through this medical sponsorship program, Aster MIMS is taking a pledge to support any medical requirement of these sports stars of tomorrow and nurture their growth and development as they train to compete against the best in the world.”

DrMoopen presented Tendulkar with a portrait of the latter, handmade by an Aster MIMS employee, from 1524 black pepper corns, representing the number of matches Tendulkar played in his career.
The inauguration was graced by the presence of special invitees Ms Meenakshi AmmaGurukkal (Padma Awardee), Mr. A. Earlier in the day, Sachin arrived at Aster MIMS hospital, accompanied by the Malabar Chapter of Harley Owners Group (H.O.G). After the inauguration in Kozhikode, Sachin Tendulkar accompanied by Dr. Azad Moopenflew to Kochi to inauguratethe Sports Medicine Centre at Aster Medcity.
