Dr. Abhijith B R
Lead Consultant - Medical Gastroenterology
Dr. Abhijith B R is a Lead Consultant in Medical Gastroenterology and Advanced Endoscopy at Aster Whitefield Hospital, Bengaluru, with over 10,000 endoscopic procedures performed. He is one of the few gastroenterologists in Karnataka with subspecialty training and hands-on expertise in Third Space Endoscopy — including Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM) and Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD) — as well as Interventional Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) and complex pancreatico-biliary endoscopy.
He completed his DM (Medical Gastroenterology) from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal — one of India's premier gastroenterology training programmes — and a specialised Fellowship in Diagnostic and Therapeutic EUS from IDL Care School of EUS, Mumbai. His earlier training includes an MD (General Medicine) from Rabindranath Tagore Medical College, Udaipur, and MBBS from Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences, Hubli.
His advanced procedural expertise includes POEM for achalasia cardia, Gastric POEM (G-POEM) for gastroparesis, Zenker's POEM (Z-POEM), Submucosal Tunnel Endoscopic Resection (STER), and Endoscopic Full-Thickness Resection (EFTR). In interventional EUS, he performs EUS-guided Gastrojejunostomy (EUS-GJ), Choledochoduodenostomy (EUS-CDS), Rendezvous procedures, coil embolization, and EUS-guided necrosectomy. He is experienced in ESD, Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR), and manages complex cases of Disconnected Pancreatic Duct Syndrome (DPDS).
Dr. Abhijith is known for explaining complex procedures in clear, simple terms — ensuring every patient feels confident, informed, and comfortable throughout their treatment journey.
