A stereotactic biopsy is a surgical procedure where a thin needle is inserted into the brain to extract a small piece of tissue to examine under a microscope.
Methods
Frame based: Generally done as a day care procedure, under local anaesthesia.
Frameless: Utilises Neuronavigation principle, needs general anaesthesia
Indications
Small lesions
Deep seated lesions
Multiple lesions
Patients in whom surgery can be of high risk
