To gift a person a new life through organ donation is nothing less than a divine act. Aster Medcity celebrated the World Kidney Day on 8th March 2018 by honouring organ donors who gave away a part of their body to save another’s life. The theme of this year’s kidney day was “Donate An Organ To Loved One And Save A Life”.
Mrs. Soumini Jain, Honourable Mayor of Kochi was the Chief Guest at the programme, which was attended by more than 100 organ donors and organ recipients, along with Dr. Harish Pillai, CEO Aster Medcity & Cluster Head, Aster DM Healthcare (Kerala & Hyderabad); Dr. V Narayanan Unni, Lead Senior Consultant Nephrologist & Director – Academic Affairs; Dr. Kishore T A, Consultant Urologist; Dr. Sangeeth P S, Consultant Transplant Anaesthetist; Dr. T R John, Consultant Psychiatrist & Chief of Medical Services and Ms. Ajitha P S, Chief of Nursing Services, Aster Medcity.
The donors were honoured by Mrs. Soumini Jain and Dr. Harish Pillai. Dr. V Narayanan Unni, Lead Senior Consultant Nephrologist & Director – Academic Affairs, Aster Medcity spoke about common kidney diseases and the need for early detection and prevention of renal failure. The children who were present at the function were gifted art kits.
The Centre of Excellence in Multi-Organ Transplant at Aster Medcity has performed more than 133 kidney transplants, including 18 children in 3 years. This includes the world’s smallest baby who underwent a dual organ transplant (liver and kidney) last year. Led by a team of multi-organ transplant experts, this centre is also the one among the few facilities of its kind in the region to offer robotic transplant surgery.
