Kottakkal, December 18, 2025:
In a major boost to healthcare infrastructure in the Malabar region, Aster DM Healthcare, one of India’s leading integrated healthcare providers, has announced a ₹125 crore healthcare development project for the Kottakkal region. Through this initiative, Aster is reinforcing its long-term commitment to expanding access to advanced, patient-centric healthcare services in North Kerala. The landmark announcement was made during the 15th anniversary celebrations of Aster MIMS Kottakkal. The project is being regarded as one of the largest private healthcare investments in the Malappuram region.
The announcement was made at a special anniversary event presided over by Dr Azad Moopen, Founder and Chairman of Aster DM Healthcare. MLAs P. K. Kunhalikutty and Abid Hussain Thangal, Malappuram DCC President V. S. Joy, along with Aster MIMS directors, were among those who attended the event.
Over the past 15 years, Aster MIMS Kottakkal has played a crucial role in strengthening healthcare systems, particularly in the Malabar region. To date, the hospital has provided treatment to over 4.5 million people. In view of the rising incidence of cancer in the region, Dr. Moopen announced that the 100-bed Aster International Institute of Oncology (AIIO), a centre of excellence within the Aster hospital network for cancer care, will be launched soon. He also announced the establishment of a new free dialysis centre in Malappuram district, which has the highest number of kidney disease patients in Kerala. These initiatives are expected to address critical healthcare needs in the region.
“The ₹125 crore development project is not merely an investment in infrastructure; it is an investment in human lives. It reflects our commitment to further strengthening healthcare services in Kottakkal and the wider Malabar region. As healthcare needs continue to evolve, this project will expand treatment facilities, enhance capabilities across specialised disciplines, and ensure that high-quality, compassionate care is available closer to home. Aster’s priority lies in creating long-term value through responsible growth and community well-being,” Dr Moopen said.
To further strengthen its commitment to comprehensive and inclusive healthcare, Aster MIMS Kottakkal also announced a one-year special assistance package to provide free treatment to economically disadvantaged patients. The initiative will cover high-cost, life-saving treatments such as kidney transplant surgeries, cardiac surgeries, and brain tumour surgeries. Patients requiring additional financial support will also be provided with treatment at subsidised rates.
Through this new investment, Aster DM Healthcare once again reaffirms its commitment to serving as a long-term healthcare partner for Kerala, addressing the state’s evolving healthcare needs by integrating clinical excellence with social responsibility.
Recently, on December 11, 2025, during Aster DM Healthcare’s Founder’s Day, the organisation announced a ₹120 crore commitment to establish oncology radiation LINAC centres to support underprivileged cancer patients. The first centre, aimed at serving the wider Malabar region, including neighbouring areas such as Gudalur and Gundlupet, will be set up in Wayanad, Kerala. Based on community needs and clinical feasibility, the remaining centres will be developed over the next three years in strategic locations including Bengaluru and other cities
