Uric acid is a crystal and a byproduct of purine metabolism. Hyperuricemia is when the uric acid levels are high in the blood. Gout or gouty arthritis is a inflamation of the joints and is caused due to the deposit of uric acid crystals. However, not everyone with high uric acid levels can have gout.
