Senior Consultant - Paediatric Orthopaedics
Dr. Varma is a highly accomplished orthopedic surgeon in Calicut with specialized expertise in pediatric orthopedics. He completed his MBBS from JSS Medical College, Mysore in 1990, followed by D’Ortho from Mysore Medical College in 1997 and DNB in Orthopaedics from MOSC Medical Mission Hospital, Kolenchery in 2001. After gaining extensive experience working in leading hospitals across Bangalore and Kerala until 2005, he joined Aster MIMS Calicut as a Senior Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon.
To further refine his skills, Dr. Varma completed an AO Trauma Fellowship in Switzerland (2008) and a Pediatric Orthopedic Fellowship from Manipal (2012). With more than two decades of surgical experience, his passion and primary area of focus are Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery, where he provides advanced, compassionate, and child-centered care.
Dr. Varma’s expertise includes the treatment of congenital deformities in children, such as clubfoot, CVT, and congenital hip dislocation; pediatric fractures, dislocations, and growth plate injuries; and adolescent limb deformities, including idiopathic genu valgum and genu varum (knock knees and bow legs). He is also experienced in the management of skeletal dysplasias, syndromic conditions, and post-traumatic deformities around bones and joints.
In addition, he offers specialized care for pediatric bone and joint infections including tuberculosis, neuromuscular conditions like cerebral palsy and polio, as well as spinal dysraphism-related deformities such as meningomyelocele. His expertise further extends to the treatment of epiphyseal conditions in children and adolescents such as Perthes’ disease and slipped capital femoral epiphysis, along with the management of benign pediatric bone tumors.
