Dr. Bennis Baby is a Specialist in Psychiatry with an MD in Psychiatry from Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences, Belagavi, Karnataka, and an MBBS from Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences, Bangalore. His clinical training includes experience across outpatient, inpatient, community, and consultation-liaison psychiatry settings.
During postgraduate training, he gained clinical exposure in the assessment and management of a wide range of mental health conditions, including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety disorders, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. He has also received training in the assessment and management of substance use disorders, suicide risk assessment, crisis intervention, and psychiatric emergencies.
He is among the psychiatrists in Malappuram offering intravenous (IV) ketamine therapy as an advanced treatment option for appropriately selected patients with treatment-resistant depression, based on clinical assessment and suitability.
As part of his clinical training, he completed speciality postings at NIMHANS in Neurology, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Centre of Addiction Medicine, and Geriatric Psychiatry. He also worked with the District Mental Health Programme in Belagavi and completed a three-month District Residency Program at BIMS Teaching Hospital.
His areas of clinical experience include comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and mental status examination, psychopharmacology, management of psychiatric emergencies, liaison psychiatry, Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT), and outpatient, inpatient, and community psychiatry. He also has training in psychotherapy approaches including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), supportive therapy, motivational interviewing, family and marital therapy, behavioural therapy, and relaxation techniques.
He is also involved in medical education and research, having conducted seminars and journal clubs for postgraduate students, delivered psychiatry training to undergraduate medical students, and participated in clinical research and academic presentations. His research interests include internet addiction, depression among medical students, and consultation-liaison psychiatry.
