Dr. Faizal M Ikbal serves as HOD & Senior Consultant – Orthopaedic & Spine Surgery at Aster MIMS Kottakkal. With over two decades of experience, his expertise spans joint replacement, robotic knee replacement, arthroscopy, minimally invasive and endoscopic spine surgery, and trauma surgery.
He completed his MBBS at Government Medical College, Kottayam, and his MS in Orthopaedics at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal. His advanced training includes fellowships in arthroplasty and MIS/endoscopic spine surgery in Germany.
He is the only ESPINEA faculty member from India, contributing to education and training in minimally invasive and endoscopic spine surgery, including Percutaneous Endoscopic Lumbar Discectomy (PELD).
Dr. Faizal and his team have completed more than 200 full endoscopic VAJRA expandable cage procedures, achieving the highest volume of these procedures globally. The team was felicitated by the company owners and manufacturers in recognition of this achievement.
His pioneering contributions include Kerala’s first nucleoplasty, India’s first daycare Oxford unicondylar knee replacement and Kerala’s first daycare PELD procedure. His case studies have been published in internationally recognised journals.
