Is MRI of pelvis better than CT scan?
Yes. MRI is better than CT scan for detection of pelvic pathologies including pathologies of uterus, ovaries, adenexa, prostate, anal region, rectum and urinary bladder.
What preparation is required prior to MRI scan?
No obvious preparation is required. Prior serum creatine test is required if someone has to undergo contrast MRI scan.
Can I do MRI scan during my pregnancy?
Yes. MRI scanning can be done safely during pregnancy.
Is it safe to do MRI scanning repeatedly and in children?
Yes. Since there is no radiation involved MRI scanning can be done multiple times and in pediatric patients.
How much time MRI scanning takes?
Depending on the part which is being scanned the time varies from 20 minutes to 60 minutes.
How is MRI different from CT scan?
Both these modalities create cross sectional images. MRI uses magnetic radiation and CT ionizing radiation. MRI is extremely good to detect soft tissue abnormalities including brain, disc and joints however CT is excellent modality for chest, bones and abdomen. No radiation in MRI so useful in pregnancy and pediatrics.
Will I get pain after biopsy?
Yes, some patients might get pain after the biopsy. Patient can take routine pain killers for the same.
What preparations are required for CT guided biopsy?
Patient needs to be empty stomach for 6 hours prior to biopsy. Blood thinners like ecopsirin needs to be stopped 5 days prior to biopsy after consultation with the treating physician. PT, PTT , INR tests needs to be done before the biopsy. Patient is observed for 4 to 5 hours after biopsy before discharge.
How long I need to stay in hospital after contrast CT?
Patient needs to stay for 30 min after the scan to watch for delayed contrast reaction after the scan.
How do I feel during or after contrast CT scan?
After IV injection of contrast, patient might feel warmth in the body and metallic taste in mouth for few second and then disappear.
