Aster MIMS Mother Hospital, Areekode, has successfully performed an advanced surgical procedure on a newborn born with a highly complex and rare skull defect, providing the baby with a new lease of life. The surgery was performed on the baby of a couple from Mukkam under the leadership of a team of experienced specialists.
The baby was born with Aplasia Cutis Congenita, a rare congenital condition characterised by the absence of skin and underlying tissues, resulting in exposure of the protective covering of the brain due to a defect in the skull and surrounding tissues.
