An 18-year-old young man visited Aster Aadhar Hospital with complaints of persistent nasal blockage and a visibly deformed nose. Since childhood, he had experienced difficulty breathing through his nose, which affected his daily life and sleep quality. As he entered his teenage years, the noticeable nasal deformity became a source of ridicule among his peers, impacting his self-esteem and causing significant emotional distress.
After a detailed clinical evaluation by Dr. Umesh Joshi, a CT scan of the facial bones was performed. The investigation revealed a severely deviated nasal septum affecting both the front-to-back and top-to-bottom dimensions of the nose. In addition, a prominent bony-cartilaginous hump was present on the nasal bridge, contributing to both functional and cosmetic concerns. A multidisciplinary surgical approach was planned to address these complex issues.
The patient underwent an advanced Septorhinoplasty procedure using an open rhinoplasty technique. Through a carefully placed incision in the columella (the tissue between the nostrils), the surgical team corrected the nasal hump, realigned the severely deviated septum, and addressed the displaced caudal septum. Specialized cartilage reshaping techniques were used to refine the nasal tip and create a more balanced nasal appearance while preserving structural support.
Following surgery, the patient experienced a smooth recovery. Once the nasal packing was removed, he reported significant improvement in breathing, marking the successful resolution of his long-standing functional problem. Over the following weeks, swelling gradually subsided, revealing a straighter nasal profile, improved symmetry, and a well-contoured nasal tip. The external scar remained minimal and discreetly hidden within the natural contours of the nose.
Today, the young man enjoys normal nasal breathing and a natural-looking appearance. More importantly, the procedure has helped restore his confidence and overall quality of life. This case highlights how modern septorhinoplasty can effectively address both functional breathing difficulties and cosmetic concerns, delivering life-changing results through a combination of surgical expertise and comprehensive patient care.
