The Vital Role of Radiation Therapy in Cancer Care
At Aster Hospitals, the Department of Radiation Oncology is a leader in precision cancer care, offering state-of-the-art technology and advanced treatment techniques to deliver highly accurate and effective radiation therapy.
Nearly 60–70% of cancer patients require radiation therapy as part of their treatment journey, alongside surgery and chemotherapy. The department therefore plays a vital role in comprehensive cancer management.
Pioneering Innovations in Radiation Oncology
Aster was the first centre in Karnataka to implement Surface Guided Radiation Therapy (SGRT) and the first in India to introduce Intraoperative Electron Radiation Therapy (IOeRT), reflecting its commitment to innovation and excellence in patient care.
Advanced Radiation Therapy Technologies
The department is equipped with cutting-edge technologies including RapidArc®/VMAT, Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS), Stereotactic Radiotherapy (SRT), Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT), Deep Inspiration Breath Hold (DIBH), IMRT, and IGRT. These advanced techniques enable precise tumour targeting while minimizing radiation exposure to healthy tissues.
Specialized Support for Bone Marrow Transplantation
Our department supports the Hemato-Oncology team in Bone Marrow Transplantation through Total Body Irradiation (TBI), which serves as one of the conditioning regimens for transplant patients.
We have a dedicated team that delivers Total Skin Electron Beam Therapy (TSEBT) for patients with Mycosis Fungoides and Cutaneous T-Cell Lymphomas, ensuring specialized treatment for these complex conditions.

Our Brachytherapy facility is one of its kind, offering a wide range of specialized treatments. Patients can undergo Intracavitary, Interstitial, Intravaginal, Intraluminal, and Mould Brachytherapy procedures, tailored to their specific clinical needs.
