Dr. Girish Warrier leads a team of dedicated professionals, involved in taking care of children and infants with complex congenital cardiac disease at the best cardiac surgery hospital in Calicut - Aster MIMS. He is the head of the department of Paediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery and is a paediatric cardiac surgeon with many firsts to his credit. He is the first surgeon in India to successfully perform the complex open-heart procedure (Starne’s Operation) in a 1 kg neonate. He is also the first paediatric cardiac surgeon in Telangana to successfully perform a Norwood Operation.
Graduated from Government Medical College, Thrissur, Dr. Warrier completed his M.S. in General Surgery from the Government Medical College, Calicut and M.Ch. (CVTS) from SCTIMST, Trivandrum. He then completed a Paediatric Cardiac Surgery Fellowship at Auckland City Hospital & Starship Children’s Hospital, New Zealand. Dr Girish also holds a fellowship in Cardiac Surgery from Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, USA.
With more than 20 years of expertise, Dr. Warrier joined Aster MIMS Hospital, Kozhikode in 2018 and he has performed nearly 700 cases of varying complexities in the last 3 years. He has set up the first Paediatric ECMO facility in North Kerala. He has been the first to have successfully treated a neonate with ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) in Northern Kerala. He has also been actively involved with ECMO in non-cardiac paediatric patients. His interests are complex neonatal cardiac surgery, single ventricle palliation, and cardiac surgery for low-weight infants.
