Dr. Lakshmi is a highly skilled and compassionate Neuropsychiatrist with comprehensive expertise in diagnosing and managing a wide spectrum of mental health conditions. She combines a strong academic foundation with extensive hands-on clinical experience in both inpatient and outpatient psychiatric care.
She completed her MD in Psychiatry from Government Medical College, Gadag, where she gained advanced exposure to emergency psychiatry, multidisciplinary case management, and modern psychiatric treatment modalities. Additionally, she underwent specialised training at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), further strengthening her expertise in advanced neuropsychiatric care.
Dr. Lakshmi has actively contributed to community mental health through her work under the District Mental Health Programme (DMHP), Malappuram, Government of Kerala. Her role focused on early diagnosis, awareness, and improving accessibility of psychiatric care across diverse populations.
Her clinical expertise includes the management of complex psychiatric conditions such as mood disorders, psychosis, substance use disorders, organic mental disorders, disorders related to pregnancy and postpartum, various neurodevelopmental disorders in children and other neuropsychiatric conditions. She is also trained in advanced procedures, including Modified Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT), Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS), and Electroencephalogram (EEG).
With a special interest in Geriatric Psychiatry, Dr. Lakshmi has conducted detailed research on cognitive impairment in the elderly, with a focus on understanding the impact of sensory deficits such as hearing and vision loss on cognitive decline. Her work explores early identification strategies and intervention approaches aimed at improving the quality of life and functional independence among older adults.
She adopts a holistic, patient-centred approach by integrating evidence-based pharmacological treatments with psychotherapy and counselling, ensuring comprehensive and long-term mental health recovery. Dr. Lakshmi is known for her empathetic communication style, creating a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental environment for patients and their families.
