Sinus is the free spaced cavity in the skull over the eyes and the nose. Sinusitis is triggered when the surface layer of the nose becomes dilated and the Ostium (small opening) is obstructed.
Onset
A Sinus infection usually happens due to common cold or an allergy. The most common symptoms of this condition are recurrent headaches, cough during night and failure to maintain body equilibrium.
Symptoms
Look for the following symptoms:
- Pressure behind the eyes and cheeks
- A stuffy nose that lasts more than a week
- Worsening headache
- Slight dizziness when shifting position
- Fever
- Cough
- Bad breath
- Thick yellow or green mucus draining from your nose
- Fatigue
- Decreased sense of smell
Treatment
Try the following to reduce congestion:
Self-care:
- Apply a warm, moist washcloth to your face several times a day.
- Drink plenty of fluids
- Inhale steam 2 - 4 times a day
- Spray nasal saline several times per day.
Avoid
- Flying when you are congested
- Temperature extremes and sudden changes in temperature
- Bending forward with your head down
- Allergy triggers
