Dr. Narayana Subramaniam is a national and international-award winning surgeon and researcher specializing in head and neck oncology and reconstructive surgery. He offers the whole range of treatment to patients with head and neck cancer, including innovative treatments like 3D virtually-planned dental implant-guided reconstruction of the jawbone and facial nerve reconstruction. With a team of experts, he offers high-quality, affordable surgical and non-surgical care to patients with disorders of the head and neck, focused on quality of life. In addition to the latest surgical treatments, he ensures that all patients receive high-quality dental care, speech and swallowing therapy, nutritional support, physical rehabilitation, and psycho-oncology care.
He is also a clinician scientist, focused on improvements in existing head and neck cancer treatment. He is an investigator on multiple ongoing clinical trials and research, which offer innovative treatment options to patients with head and neck cancer. He has been principal/co-investigator on clinical trials worth nearly 30 crore rupees, including a highly prestigious recent National Institutes of Health U-01 grant for over US $2 million. Through his collaboration with scientists and engineers, he is involved in the development of low-cost, technology-driven devices for cancer diagnosis and treatment. He has a passion for community outreach in oncology and public health, specifically targeting low-income households. He has a unique insight into the confluence of medicine, technology, social impact and entrepreneurship, and is actively involved in medical device development and the health-technology startup scene.
Clinical and translational research interests include oral cancer in the young, chewing tobacco related oral cancer, oral cancer immunology and thyroid molecular markers. He led the first team to perform a bilateral zygomatic implant perforated (ZIP) flap for immediate reconstruction of the entire upper jaw with dental restoration in a case of oral cancer and combination of a patient specific implant (PSI) with free flap reconstruction for complex facial tumours. Has published multiple articles on novel staging strategies in advanced oral cancer, novel molecular alterations in chewing tobacco related oral cancer, and published new techniques to approach advanced tumours of the skull base.

He is the only surgeon in the region to offer this procedure to patients with oral cancer
- Additionally, he often performs secondary reconstruction, where patients undergo corrective procedures or reconstructive procedures after their primary cancer surgery, to improve form or function.

He is editor for two upcoming textbooks due to be published by Springer Nature in Q4 2025/Q1 2026.
