Aster Medcity organised PULSECON 2017, a CME workshop on Minimally Invasive Therapy for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), commonly known as enlarged prostate, over the weekend. The workshop conducted by specialists from Aster Urology updated and familiarised the attending Urologists on the latest developments in the field for minimally invasive management of BPH. The day long workshop was held at the Knowledge Hub in Aster Medc

Benign prostatic hyperplasia or enlargement of the prostate gland is a common condition that occurs in men over 50 years old and tends to obstruct urination by constricting the urethra, the duct through which urine is conveyed out of the body. The workshop focused on the use of Lasers in Prostate surgery, particularly Holmium Laser Enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP), the modern minimally invasive alternative to the standard invasive surgical procedure that is done for BPH.

HoLEP is a modern alternative to the standard Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP) procedure for bladder outflow obstruction due to BPH. HoLEP requires only a short period of hospitalisation and an anaesthetic. Dr. T. Manohar, Senior Urologist and Laser and Laparoscopic Surgeon from Bengaluru spoke to the delegates on the latest developments in lasers and HoLEP.

PULSECON 2017 had urologists from across Kerala participating in the discussions and they appreciated Aster Medcity’s efforts in updating them on the latest developments in medical technology.
