Aster Medcity to mark World Liver Day with launch of Transplant Support Group

Aster Medcity launched Transplant Support Group on World Liver Day , April 19th. Transplant Support Group inaugurated by Mr Lalji K, Asst. Commissioner Of Police, Law & Order in the presence of Ms Rajisha Vijayan, Cine Actress, Mrs Santy Sajan, Chief Operating Officer, Aster Medcity, Dr V N Unni, Senior Consultant, Nephrologist, Aster Medcity, Dr Mathew Jacob, Consultant Multi Organ Transplant Surgeon, Aster Medcity.

The Transplant Support Group at Aster Medcity has been conceived to offer support and education to organ transplant recipients, candidates, caregivers and family members. The support group will provide a platform for sharing information and experiences, enabling the patients, their families and friends to better understand and cope with the issues and concerns that may occur before and after a liver or any other organ transplant.

Dr. Naveen Ganjoo, Consultant Hepatologist, Aster Integrated Liver Care Program (ILC), Aster Group of Hospitals said, “Transplant Support Group meetings provide members who have undergone transplants with emotional support and helpful information from other transplant patients who understand the issues because transplants are a part of their lives too. Since the group will be a mix of people in various stages of the transplant process, it will allow members to learn firsthand accurate information about what they can expect. The forum also provides a platform for the organ donors to address their concerns and be informed regarding organ donation.”

The Transplant Support Group will meet regularly allowing the group members to explore and understand the physical and emotional concerns that accompany organ transplant. Guest speakers at meetings will help initiate information discussions are designed to touch upon the individual needs of each patient and his or her family. Some common topics that will be covered in the Transplant Support Group meetings include the transplant process, lifestyle changes caused by transplant, financial concerns associated with transplant, side effects of medications, organ rejection, nutrition and other related subjects. The support group will be open to family and friends of the patients.
