Could there be a better way of celebrating Vishu than giving away Vishu Kaineettam and spreading good health and happiness? For Team Aster Medcity, there could not have been a more special Vishu than celebrating it with Balu, a young boy who had undergone surgery at Aster Medcity last year. The medical team from Aster Medcity, including Dr Naveen Haridas of the Neurology Department, visited Balu at this home to hand over the traditional Vishu Kaineettam and do follow–up checkups.
Balu, the son of Rajan and Lakshmi, who resides at a tribal hamlet at Mankulam Panchayat, Adimali was brought to Aster Medcity for rapidly diminishing eyesight. He required immediate surgery to remove a sizeable intracranial tumor and save whatever is possible of his vision. Balu was referred to Aster Medcity by Dr Dalvin from Ernakulam General Hospital.
Thanks to the DM Foundation headed by Dr Azad Moopen and Aster Sick Kids Foundation, who took care of the surgery cost amounting to Rs five lakhs, despite the family’s poor financial condition, the surgery was made possible for Balu at short notice.
Covid -19 pandemic came in the way of follow-up checkups. In this context, the hospital management decided to send a team to his home for follow-up checkups. After handing over ‘Vishu Kaineettam’, Dr Naveen Haridas examined Balu.
