Kozhikode, June 14, 2016: The quotation ‘As you sow, so shall you reap’ comes alive with the real life example of Ms. Lekha Namboothiri. It was in 2009 that Ms. Lekha a beautician from Chettikkulangara, inspired after watching the movie ‘Loudspeaker’ starring Mammootty, decided to donate an organ. The opportunity for her humane gesture came in 2012, when she selflessly donated one of her kidneys to a stranger, Mr. Shafi from Pattambi who was in dire need of a kidney transplant, giving him a second chance at life.

Ms. Lekha had herself suffered an accident a few years ago which had caused a prolapsed spinal disc giving her pain off and on, but was controlled by medicines. Recently, the condition aggravated and even injections could not give her any relief. Surgery was the only option. But Lekha, whose noble act of donating a kidney to save the life of a stranger, was herself not in a financial position to pay for a surgery. But no good deed ever goes unrewarded. News of her situation spread and noted spine specialist, Dr. Suresh S. Pillai, Senior Consultant - Orthopaedics & Spine Surgery at Aster MIMS Calicut admitted her under his care. Funds for the surgery were provided by Mr Saji Nair, a businessman based in the Middle East.

Dr. Suresh S. Pillai said, ‘We are privileged to have the honour of repaying Ms. Lekha’s act of kindness by restoring her to health. The prolapsed disc was pressing on a nerve causing her unbearable pain, making movement difficult and restricting her to bed. The surgery for her prolapsed disc was successfully performed on Friday, June 10th. We are looking forward to an uneventful recovery enabling Ms. Lekha to return to normal life at the earliest.’

Ms. Lekha Namboothiri said, ‘I am thankful for the care and support I have received from Dr. Pillai and the other doctors and staff at Aster MIMS. I now look forward to meeting Mr Saji and thanking him personally for his generous support. I also thank Mammootty who extended financial support for my treatment.’

Dr. Rahul Menon, CEO Aster MIMS said, “It is said that ‘good deeds stand tall’ and we are glad that Ms. Lekha will soon be able to stand tall and walk without pain. We are happy that Dr. Suresh S. Pillai, the newest member of our Aster MIMS family has affirmed our belief in our caring mission to fulfil our social responsibility. We wish Ms. Lekha all
