TAVI or Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation, a totally nonsurgical innovative method to replace a damaged heart valve, was successfully carried out at Aster MIMS on 19th April. Two patients who could not undergo open heart valve replacement surgery due to co-existing health issues were subjected to this cutting edge keyhole technique on April 19th.

A 72 year female from Areacode with Critical Aoric Stenosis (narrowing of heart valve) and COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) and recurrent syncope and a 75 year male patient, a cardiac arrest survivor, from Chathalloor with severe Aortic stenosis and COPD were the first to avail this advanced non surgical procedure at Aster MIMS. Both patients were considered very high risk for an open heart surgery and were refused by surgeons. Both patients have recovered well.
